Rhode Island Campus Voting Challenge

The Rhode Island Campus Voting Challenge is a nonpartisan competition between higher education institutions in Rhode Island with a commitment to increasing student voter participation and engagement on campuses across the state.

There will be award categories for both 4-year institutions and 2-year institutions. Data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE), which is managed by the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education, will be used to determine award winners. The Rhode Island Department of State, in partnership with the Rhode Island Campus Voting Challenge, will announce awards for:

  • Highest campus voter turnout
  • Most improved campus voter turnout
  • Highest campus voter registration rate

In the fall of this year, we will formally announce the results of the Rhode Island Campus Voting Challenge. Results from previous years can be found here.

The Rhode Island Department of State is facilitating this voting challenge in collaboration with the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, a national nonpartisan nonprofit that works in partnership with numerous local and national nonpartisan organizations in the Student Learn Students Vote coalition, which has more than 400 members. Awards will be based on campuses' National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) reports generated by the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education at Tufts University in Massachusetts. Participation in the Rhode Island Challenge will automatically include participation in the national ALL IN Challenge and awards competition.

Institutions that opt into the Challenge will be provided guidance and tools to create an action plan for increasing student engagement on their campus. There is no sign-up cost to participate.

Please contact the Rhode Island Department of State at [email protected] or Stephanie King, Strategic Initiatives Director for the ALL In Challenge, ([email protected]) with questions on this program.
