Pursuant to RIGL § 6-1-9, RI municipalities will transfer their active trade name records to the RI Department of State on a rolling basis but no later than January 1, 2026. The RI Department of State can only accept Trade Name filings for municipalities that have transferred their active trade name records to our office. The following table lists the anticipated transfer date for each RI municipality. If you plan to register a Trade Name in a municipality that has already transferred the active record set, use the trade name online filing system to complete your registration. If you plan to register a Trade Name in a municipality that has not yet transferred the active record set, contact the municipal filing office to submit your filing.
