Pursuant to RIGL § 6-1-9, RI municipalities transferred their active trade name records to the RI Department of State prior to January 1, 2026. As such, the RI Department of State became the record keeper of all trade name filings for trade names transferred by each of Rhode Island’s 39 municipalities, as well as trade names registered for the first time with the RI Department of State. The following table lists the date each Rhode Island municipality made their transfer. All new trade name registrations and filings against existing trade names are to be completed through the Business Services Online Filing System.
