Information for Rhode Island Trade Names

This information is intended for those looking to register or maintain a trade name or “DBA.” Those looking to incorporate a Rhode Island business or keep their existing incorporated business in good standing should refer to our resources for Rhode Island Businesses page.

If you have an active trade name that was originally registered in one of Rhode Island’s 39 municipalities, the trade name record will be transferred from the Clerk’s office to the RI Department of State’s Business Services Division. No action is required of existing trade name owners at this time.
