File Annual Renewal

All RI Registered Trade Name are required to file an annual renewal starting the calendar year after the trade name is first registered.

An annual renewal is a short, simple form that captures basic information about a trade name. Annual renewals are free to file and do not ask for financial information. An annual renewal may only be filed online through the trade name online filing system during the filing period between September 1 - November 30 each year.

Annual Renewal Filing Tips

  • Enter the primary email address for the business. This email address, like all information entered on a trade name filing, will be publicly viewable in the RI Trade Name Database.

  • List an accurate NAICS code. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is a 6-digit number that identifies the specific business activity conducted under the trade name. Click here for a full list of NAICS codes. The NAICS code you choose should reflect the primary business conducted by the trade name.

  • The RI Department of State will issue a courtesy reminder each year to the business address for active trade names owing an annual renewal.
  • Any authorized individual may file the annual renewal.
