PROVIDENCE, RI - Gregg Amore was sworn in today as Rhode Island's 30th Secretary of State at a ceremony alongside Governor Daniel J. McKee, Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos, Attorney General Peter Neronha, and Treasurer James Diossa.

The oath of office was administered by Governor Daniel J. McKee, with the Bible held by Secretary Amore's wife, Lee. Secretary Amore was also joined by his daughters, Tess and Megan, for the ceremony.

"Democracy's preservation requires a commitment to the truth, transparency in government, and fair, free and secure elections," said Secretary of State Gregg Amore. "I look forward to doing everything I can as Secretary of State to preserve and support our democracy, increase civic engagement, strengthen our business community, and share our state's history. I sincerely thank the people of Rhode Island for entrusting me with the responsibilities of this office."

Prior to being elected Secretary of State, Secretary Amore was a history teacher for twenty-seven years and represented East Providence in the Rhode Island House of Representatives for ten years. As a State Representative, Secretary Amore championed bills that supported civics education and voter access. Secretary Amore most recently served as the Athletic Director at East Providence High School.

"The election of new leaders and the peaceful transfer of power is critical to the strength of our democracy," said Secretary Amore. "I thank Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea for her years of exemplary public service, as well as her administration for their valued partnership throughout this transition."

Secretary Amore's first official act as Secretary of State will be to swear in the members of the Rhode Island House of Representatives and the Rhode Island Senate. Ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in each chamber.
